About Cathedral Choir !

Mr. M.D. Thomas, B.A.L.T., the founder of the Margoschis Choral Union was responsible for the establishment of this union in this Christian town in 1950. A year after its inception, it was christened. The Margoschis Choral Union and its motto has been "Serve the Lord with your voice, energy and life" ever since. M.D. Thomas was honored by being appointed editor of the Tamil Church Hymnal and he was also well versed in Western Classical Music. He was good at voice training and he started organizing music classes at his residence. From its quorum of six members in the first meeting, the Margoschis Choral Union has developed by the leaps and bounds and now it has hundred members on its roll most of them musically talented . The executive committee was formed in 1951 and periodical meetings have been organized till now. During the sacred week, the MCU sings special songs in the meetings organized by the church. On 27 April the MCU organizes a Solomon Memorial service in memory of the great service rendered by Canon A. Margoschis who is fittingly called the "Father of Nazareth". On the Bible Sunday, the members donate hymnals, lyrics, prayer books and Bibles to be distributed to those who recite portions from the Bible. In the Institutional Carol Service also the MCU participates along with the other institutions by singling a Carol. In the penultimate week before Christmas, the MCU visits the homes of the members and well wishers singing carols and wishing them all a Merry Christmas and bright New Year . On 25 December the MCU visit St. Luke's Hospital, Nazareth, singing carols and there by comforting the sick and the suffering and offering the inpatients sweets and fruits. The night before the burial of the dead, the MCU visits the home of the departed and comforts the kith and by offering special prayers and singing songs of consolation. To felicitate the bridal couple the MCU sings special songs in the reception after the wedding service. The Choir makes an important contribution to the life of this church.
